Similar to Accordion, my solver plays this game fully open, dealing out every card before making any moves. Also like Accordion, the solver proves that the game - which is not won very often otherwise - is actually winnable the vast majority of the time: 98.7%.
I have seen a variation of Betrothal played in which two cards are always removed with each discard (in other words, not allowing single cards to be discarded). This greatly decreases the number of possible mid-game states that can be reached, making it less likely that a solution exists. However, even with this disadvantage, the game can still be won more than 40% of the time!
